Coronary Heart Disease Evaluation and Management

Advanced Coronary Heart Care:

Coronary heart disease (CHD) occurs when the arteries that supply oxygen-rich blood to the heart muscle become narrow or blocked by a buildup of plaque. This process, known as atherosclerosis, can significantly limit the heart’s ability to function. Common signs that a specialist evaluation is needed include “angina” (chest pain or pressure), unexplained shortness of breath during physical activity, or a feeling of unusual fatigue.

Comprehensive Hospital-Based Care:

To accurately evaluate and manage this condition, Dr. Bunte performs specialized hospital-based procedures, such as cardiac catheterization. During this minimally invasive service, a small, flexible tube is guided through a blood vessel to the heart. Using advanced imaging and a special contrast dye, Dr. Bunte can identify the exact location and severity of any blockages.

If a significant clog is discovered, he can before additional diagnostic evaluation to ensure invasive treatment is needed.  When invasive coronary heart care may be helpful, often the problem can be treated immediately using angioplasty (using a tiny balloon to open the artery) or by placing a stent (a small mesh tube designed to keep the artery propped open).  In some cases where the type and severity of blockages is more significant, a bypass surgery evaluation is appropriate.  Dr. Bunte will work with you and a surgical doctor to facilitate that evaluation.

Why This Service is Vital:

These procedures are essential for reducing the long-term risk of a heart attack and for identifying other related vascular conditions that could impact your health. Effective management of coronary artery disease can offer a significant opportunity to improve your quality of life. Patients who receive treatment often find they can return to their favorite hobbies, exercise more easily, and enjoy daily activities with more energy and less discomfort.
